Born to alcoholic parents, at a mere three weeks old, Raul was left for dead outside a bar inside a paper sack. Fortunately, his grandmother found him and took care of him until he turned eight, when she entrusted him to the care of her son. However, Raul’s uncle began to abuse him, which led him to flee and end up living on the streets, fending for himself. This exposed him to a world of substance abuse and criminal activity that eventually landed him in jail.
